Author Lynne Giles first met Dann Lewis in the U. S. Virgin Islands upon his appointment as Director of Tourism. Dann came in right after the Fountain Valley Massacre in St. Croix. At that point the conventional wisdom was that tourism and travel to the United States Virgin Islands would be stagnant for at least 10 years.

Dann Lewis was not phased by the challenge. Within his first 18 months in the position, and two years after he was appointed, the U. S. Virgin Islands saw the best tourism year they’d ever had to that point.

Lynne has followed the course of Dann’s remarkable carreer and has seen him become one of the architects of modern tourism. They’ve maintained a close friendship for over 30 years.
